April ‘26 Book Club Follow Up

‍ Hey everyone!

‍ We chatted while other folks set up for day-long skilled fighting. We live an extraordinary life.

Nikki’s Pairings—with thanks

Sprite Chill (NA) and a beer that was made of beer (I didn’t write it down, but you all know what beer is, so).

‍Our next Sunday Funday Book Club meetup is a Book Club Cross Over!!! May 14 at 6:30 PM at Threes in Huntington. We are readingShutter by Ramona Emerson.

Side hustle read: It’s a surprise! (a poetry book that is, I think, out of print, that deals with forensics)

Side hustle watch: CSI. All of them.

Wrap-up of your discussion of Unreliable Narrator
Mostly, we talked about other books we liked by comedians. They include Tina Fey’s Bossypants, Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, and Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please.

‍ Here’s some of Aparna Nancherla’s standup:

Quote of the Discussion

“Why are we so shocked that the writer was able to write things?”

Game of the Month

‍ We played Real Fake, Fic Fake, or Fake Fake –Figure out if the person is a historical fraud, a fraud from a book or movie, or completely made up by me. (I’m the writer who can write things).

Try your hand if you missed it:
Lennay Kekua: The alias of a young woman who dated a football player via phone calls and text messages and later supposedly died of leukemia so she would not have to reveal her actual identity

Templeton Peck: Originally an Infantry Soldier, he became commissioned as an intelligence officer, was framed, and then went AWOL; afterwards, he became a vigilante for hire, changing his appearance and impersonating real people to right wrongs for a steep price.

Emory Facinate: Sold knock-off Beanie Babies during the height of the Beanie Baby craze in the second half of the 90s, her customers becoming irate upon finding out what they thought was a super rare Princess Diana Bear that would sell for nearly $20K was actually a Princess Diane Bear, named after Emory’s aunt.

Here's the soundtrack you created:

Other places where you can find me:
I’m still teaching yoga on Tuesdays at 7:15-8:15 at Sukha Studio.

My yoga studio is also starting Sukha Backyard Book Club on June 7 at noon to 1:30. (Price is $20 (tentative) which includes the chat, meditation, and some Reiki, but it’s free for studio members). This is a once-in-a-while book club. For June, we’re reading Pablo D’Ors’s Biography of Silence.

Also in June I’m co-teaching a writing workshop at Cedarmere. Details here.

‍‍‍Our Future Meetups: ‍Everything is here.

‍Of course, if you have book suggestions, send them my way. Yup, you can share this email and/or the links. Yes, invite whomever you wish to book club. No one needs to finish the book. Hope to see you at our future book chats. Bring your appetite for snacks, sips, and conversation.

All good things,

Christina
