February ‘26 SUnday Funday Book Club FOllow Up

Hey y’all!

An impending blizzard couldn’t keep us away from book club!

Nikki’s Pairings—

Hibiscus lager (A) and Strawberry lemonade (N/A)

Our next Sunday Funday Book Club meetup is March 29 at 10-noon at Great South Bay Brewery (Bay Shore). We are reading Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

Side hustle read: Unmanned by Jessica Rae Bergamino

Side hustle watch: The Martian (2015)

Additional homework: watch K-Pop Demon Hunters – irrelevant but still a thing we’re doing.

Wrap-up of your discussion of The Dead Romantics

Lee needed more than a punch in the face. Why isn’t Florence suing him? It’s a winning lawsuit! Maybe that’s the sequel—a book of revenge. Can a not-but-almost-dead person actually have a ghost? Only The Handbook for the Recently Deceased could tell (side hustle reference!).

Beetlejuice is magnificent. Some folks saw the sequel to Beetlejuice and it was good for nostalgia. We read a few lines of “Annabel Lee” and it’s not as whimsical as The Dead Romantics. Romancing The Stone was a movie of a time, and Kathleen Turner is alive!

Quote of the Discussion

“They left the funeral home to Alice.” “April?” “Who?” “Who’s Alice?” “Who’s April?” “The sister?” “There’s no April in this book.”

(I’d like to remind everybody that I teach literature for a living.)

Game of the Month

We played Elvis, Fabio, or Whoopi (and it was not my best game).

See if you can guess who said what:

"When things go wrong, don’t go with them."

“People come to Los Angeles and sell their soul every day.”

“Normal is nothing more than a cycle on a washing machine.”

(I know. It’s not great.)

Then we played a bonus game: Roker or Noker – figuring out scenarios that Al Roker was actually in and ones that were made up (surprisingly, a much better game).

Humped by an ewok? Pooped his pants at the White House? Made guacamole with Martha Stewart?

(Yeah, it’s pretty great).

Here's the soundtrack you created:

Our Future Meetups

Everything is here.

Of course, if you have book suggestions, send them my way. Yup, you can share this email and/or the links. Yes, invite whomever you wish to book club. No one needs to finish the book. Hope to see you at our future book chats. Bring your appetite for snacks, sips, and conversation.

All good things,
Christina
