July ‘26 Sunday Funday Book Club Follow Up

We proved we could pivot! Also, most everyone who attended proved that you don’t have to finish the book to come to book club.

Welp, it was kind of a coffee drink, but we wound up getting water, lattes, and mimosas.
Our next Sunday Funday Book Club meetup is August 30 at 10-noon at Great South Bay Brewery / possibly Ghost (Bay Shore). We are reading Hot Desk by Laura Dickerman.

Wrap-up of your discussion of Didion & Babitz
This was the worst, the absolute worst (aside from Lessons in Chemistry). I am so angry at this stupid book. How dare she, how DARE she write this confusing, maladjusted, delusional so-called biographical account, which includes calling the woman she idolizes stinky, calling out the woman she for some reason hates about how the woman grieves over the loss of her husband and daughter, and also referring to herself as being part of a Greek myth. My only regret about borrowing this book from the library instead of buying it is that I have to return it instead of destroying it. Ugh. So terrible.
And that’s my take on it. Everyone else had negative takes as well ranging from why do we focus on Eve’s breast size to what exactly is the structure of the book other than non-structured.

Game of the Month:
We played Harrison Ford, Jesus, or The Carpenters.
Note: The best part of the book was learning about Harrison Ford who had the best drugs and was a lazy carpenter.
Note: For those who don’t know or don’t remember, Jesus was a carpenter.
Note: The Carpenters were a music duo.
Now that the game is explained, I was so angry that I made the game super easy, or what I thought was super easy, but sometimes it doesn’t pan out that way. Nikki won a keychain.
